Vegetarian Vegan Omelette

1 Cup oats

1 Cup Gram flour

1 Teaspoon baking powder

1 Red onion finely chopped

1 Teaspoon turmeric spoon

1/2 Teaspoon black pepper or Kashmiri red chili powder

2 Tablespoon sesame seeds or hempseeds

2 Tablespoon Coriander leaves

2 Teaspoon Dish delicious blend

Salt according to your taste

Olive oil

Enough water to make a runny consistency batter

This vegan omelette made with gram four and oats flour is a healthy and tasty alternative to your regular vegetarian meal. In India this dish is served as a breakfast popularly known as( Besan Chilla )and is a great way to start your day packed with fiber, vitamin, minerals. It is quick and easy to prepare, protein- packed and gluten recipe. This a perfect option for vegans and even for those who don’t want to make No- egg omelette and this pairs well with any bread, can be served with any of your salad greens or serve as it is. In a blender add quick cooking oats and grind it into a fine powder

In a medium size bowl add oats flour, gram flour, chopped red onion, chopped coriander, turmeric powder, pepper, salt, dish delicious spice blend

Add water, wisk to make a smooth and runny consistency batter, make sure no lumps are left

Heat nonstick pan or cast-iron pan on low medium heat, if using cast-iron make sure drizzle some oil before your pour batter

Take a ladle full of batter and pour on the pan, spread evenly and gently with the help of back of your ladle, sprinkle some seeds on top

Cook on low medium heat until it gets golden brown on one side then flip on other side, drizzle some oil on the edges of the omelet so that it gets crispy and its easy to flip specially using cast pan iron. On nonstick it shouldn’t be an issue

Once cooked fold it over by using a spatula and serve it hot with any yogurt dressing and chutney


  • You can buy gram flour from any Indian store but you can make this with chickpea flour as well
  • Make sure not to add water all at once, add 1/2 cup of water to start, then add again this will ensure you will get the right consistency batter
  • You can add freedom spice blend to this recipe if you want a bit of change in the flavors
  • Add shredded carrots, chopped spinach, parsley, tomatoes, shredded broccoli to add more value to this meal
  • Make sure your flame is on low medium heat when you pour the batter, it gets easy to spread evenly
  • Always cook on low medium heat, if you cook on high heat its more likely your omelette will get cooked from outside and will not get cooked from inside
